We’re not done talking about Skyrim, but in this animation by PsychicPebbles, Dovakin sure is.

2011 Holiday Guide: Multi-Platform pt. 2

These are the games that aren’t exclusive to one system and should be played in whatever format you can get your hands on. This is part 2 of 2.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (available for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360)
Welcome to open-world gaming at its finest. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gives players total freedom to explore anywhere in the world, at their own risk of course. Taking place 200 years after Oblivion, players explore the world of Skyrim which in the midst of a Civil War. Bethesda’s Radiant Story system ensures that no two players have the same experience while the immense character-customization system ensures no two characters look the same. If random dragon battles, total customization, and the most bang for your buck in regards to cost of game/time to completion interests you, look no further than Skyrim. Check out our full review here.

Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection (available for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360)
One of the biggest and best surprises of the year has to be Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection. While this isn’t Metal Gear Solid: Rising it’s more than enough to keep your appetite satiated till its release. This set offers five complete games: Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 from the MSX. More importantly, after a nine year absence, this set marks the return of the franchise to the Xbox. This collection is sure to be welcomed by those familiar with the franchise and fans of stealth combat and isn’t to be missed.

Minecraft (available for Android, iOS, PC, and coming soon to Xbox 360)
Minecraft is a little bit LEGO and a heaping load of strategy and planning. It’s the type of game that gives you total creative freedom and rewards you for your creativity with infinitely more things to build and do. It features three different play modes and is perfect for the strategy-minded individual.

Portal 2 (available for Mac, PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360)
The concept is deceptively simple. Using your portal gun, create portals to get from point A to point B while avoiding automatic turrets, “bottomless” pits, neurotoxin, and other obstacles. Combine this with witty dialogue along with a clever story and a grandiose sense of accomplishment after solving each puzzle and you have Portal 2. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a delightful Co-op mode that tells another part of the main story. Portal 2 is the perfect choice for anyone who enjoys solving puzzles and playing co-op with others.

Saints Row: The Third (available for Onlive, PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360)
When the tagline for a game is “Strap it On!” you know you’ve got something special on your hands. Saints Row: The Third scraps the over-the-top action of its predecessors and replaces it with insane-Ican’tbelieveyoucandothisinvideogames-over-the-top action. Seriously, there’s an erotic toy that is used as a bat (use your imagination). If you are looking for a game that is decent on the story but doesn’t take itself seriously, Saints Row: The Third won’t disappoint. It is full of enough zany shenanigans that would humble the crew of Jackass and keep the most daring and imaginative gamer busy for hours. Go here for our full impressions on the game.
